2027 Youth Violin Concerto Competition

Prepare to perform, compete, and celebrate the next generation of violinists. The in-person finals will be held at Agnes Scott College on March 12, 2027.

Competition Overview

Violinists ages 14 through 18 will compete in a single age group. The competition consists of two phases: an initial video screening followed by in-person finals.

Every competitor will submit a performance video for evaluation by the judges. Ten finalists will be selected to compete at Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. An awards ceremony and reception will take place that evening.

First Place

A handmade violin created by violin makers of the Southern Violin Association.

Value: $10,000

Second Place

A handmade bow created by bow makers of the Southern Violin Association.

Value: $4,000

All finalists will receive a finalist certificate and prize package.

Repertoire

Competitors and their teachers should select one movement from the standard violin concerto repertoire that is appropriate for the competitor’s ability and for a high-level competition.

If you would like suggestions or have questions about whether a selection is appropriate, please contact the Southern Violin Association using the email below. Finalists must provide the judges with two copies of their music.

Registration & Video Requirements

  • The non-refundable registration fee is $100.
  • The audition video must be no more than six months old when submitted.
  • The video will be submitted during registration by providing a link.
  • At the beginning of the video, the competitor must clearly state their name and the piece they are performing.
  • The video performance must include live piano accompaniment. Digital, MIDI, taped, or other accompaniment enhancement is not allowed.
  • Music may be used during the video screening performance.

Finalist Information

  • The final performance must be memorized.
  • Finalists must perform with live piano accompaniment.
  • Finalists are responsible for providing their own accompanist. Information about Atlanta-area accompanists will be made available to finalists.
  • Finalists are responsible for their own travel and lodging for the in-person finals.
  • There are no additional fees for finalists.

A competitor’s age is determined as of the day of the finals, March 12, 2027.
